Pillars In Action: Community
I am a new member of the St. Joseph Home community and have been working with the Development Team in a temporary position for the last few weeks, so the 5K was the first event of any sort that I have experienced. It was also my first volunteer experience with SJH. It’s hard to put into words how fantastic it was to see such a large gathering of residents, friends, family, staff and volunteers. As part of my volunteer duties, I was in charge of preparing breakfast and running supplies back and forth from the kitchen. It was a great time and I was able to meet a lot of people, including a woman whose company supplied the tent which the celebration breakfast and awards ceremony is stationed in. She shared a fact that I found quite interesting….the tent washing machine can actually fit 7 people inside of it! I also had the opportunity to get to know some of the other volunteers and participants – students, residents and neighbors. This experience allowed me to see it how diverse and involved SJH is in the broader community. I’m already looking forward to seeing everyone there again next year at the 2019 5K!
